“It was the absolute best, heartfelt proposition I might at any point request. We were in Paris on a boat in the Seine River. We had a violin player, champagne and roses. It seemed like time stopped, and it was only both of us at the time,” Lavigne, 37, tells PEOPLE solely of the proposition.
Mod, 35, asked about getting married with a specially crafted, heart-molded ring set in a regal setting with little hearts from XIV Karats from Beverly Hills.
“It has the words ‘Greetings Icon’ engraved in it, which were the very first words he shared with me. Also, it has Mod + Avril within,” Lavigne says. “He knew all along I needed a heart molded jewel on the grounds that on the day we met, we had matching heart formed cleared rings on. We’ve worn them consistently since, so its simply fitting to have a heart-molded wedding band. I love it to such an extent.”
While Lavigne says the proposition “was an all out shock,” she realized not long after they met that he was the one.
“I knew we had a very strong unstoppable connection from the first week of writing and working together in the studio. Immediately,” says Lavigne, who met Mod while working on her latest album, Love Sux. “He made every day better. It was like I had known him forever. As time went on, things kept getting better, and it felt incredibly natural.”
Now the pop-punk power couple can’t wait to plan their life together.
“I look forward to having fun, creating, working together, touring together, growing together,” Lavigne adds. “It feels good to have someone who can help celebrate the good times, hold you through the tough ones, and be there for all the moments in between.”

The pop-punk princess as of late opened up to PEOPLE about the starting points of their relationship, and uncovered that she was not searching for adoration when Mod Sun (whose genuine name is Dylan Smith) went along.
“I was like, ‘I really want a break from men,'” she said. “Then, at that point, after two days that all departed for good!”
The pair started dating “right away” after they met at a songwriting meeting, as Lavigne said she “just followed [her] heart.”

Lavigne was featured on Mod’s 2021 single “Flames,” and he co-wrote and co-produced several tracks on her most recent album Love Sux, which came out in February.
Out of appreciation for her birthday in September, Mod shared a sweet Instagram post that referred to her as “my first love.”
“Cheerful birthday to my perfect partner, my first love, my number one individual on the planet… ..my heavenly messenger. To the most brilliant + elegant lady I’ve at any point looked at, you have made my fantasies materialized in such countless ways,” he inscribed the post. “You are my quiet in the turmoil + my sanctuary from the tempest. This will be the third marriage for Lavigne, who split from Nickelback rocker Chad Kroeger in 2015 following two years of marriage. She was additionally hitched to Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley from 2006 to 2009.
