    The daughter of artist Martin von Haselberg and actress and singer Bette Midler, Sophie was born in Los Angeles, California. Her mother is Jewish-American, and her father is of German ancestry. She studied in New York City at the Ethical Culture Fieldston School. Following her studies in sociology and East Asian studies at Yale University, she worked in China at an advertising agency before returning to Yale in 2011 to enrol in the theatre school’s acting programme. Harry J. N. Guinness and von Haselberg were wed on June 6, 2020, at her parents’ house in Millbrook, New York.

    In the play Billy and Ray at The Vineyard in October 2014, von Haselberg made his theatrical debut in New York City. Von Haselberg appeared in the Woody Allen movie Irrational Man in 2015. Allen declared: “She is fantastic. She arrived with a large group of other readers, and she was excellent. She is exactly like her mother. She impressed me so much, in fact, that I combined her part. There was another part as well, and after giving her the part, I cut the other character from the film and worked to give her a double role so she could show up more frequently since she was stunning. Because she is clever, she exudes intelligence.”

    In FX’s The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story in 2018, she portrayed Linda Elwell. As ACT UP activist Syd, she had an appearance in season 2, episode 1 and the season finale of FX’s Pose. In 2024, von Haselberg will appear in the sketch comedy series “I Believe I Ordered the Asparagus” on Hulu as Ms. Drinkitout.
