Early Life
Carlos Negron was born on the main island of Puerto Rico’s central town of Villalba. His family included several people who worked as police officers in Puerto Rico. His two older brothers, José Alberto Negrón and José Alfredo Negrón, both chose to become police officers, as did his father, Lieutenant José Adolfo Negrón.
Numerous of his relatives and one of his uncles are also police policemen. As a result, Negrón was initially drawn to a profession in law enforcement, but after learning about boxing, he developed a stronger passion for it. He learned the discipline from his brother José Alberto, who also served as his trainer. When Negrón, then 15 years old, won the bronze medal in his division at the 2003 Junior Olympics, he decided to make a profession out of his sport.
Boxing Career
Carlos Negron declared his decision to leave the amateur circuit and pursue a professional deal following the Olympic Games. Negrón signed with PR Best Boxing Promotions, which made the announcement on March 3, 2009. Carlos Negron made his professional debut on March 28, 2009, in Bayamón, Puerto Rico, as a part of a card dubbed “Noche de Campeones”. On the same night, his rival Miguel Angel Jiménez made his debut. First round knockout by Negrón, who then used a right punch to cause a second fall. As a result, Jiménez’s corner declared the fight over and gave Negrón a technical knockout victory.
Larry Carter was defeated by Negrón on September 12, 2009, through technical knockout. He fought Larry Pryor in four rounds, by unanimous decision, less than a month later. In his final contest at light heavyweight, Negrón defeated Garrett Wilson on January 23, 2010, by unanimous decision. He defeated Roy Ashworth via knockout in the first round on the undercard of “Haciendo Historia,” which featured a bout between Wilfredo Vázquez, Jr. and Marvin Sonsona as the main event. Negrón knocked off William Bailey in the first round on April 17, 2010. His second fight was against Gustavo Enriquez in the undercard of a card named “The Challenge: Juan Manuel López vs. Bernabé Concepción,” which he won by unanimous decision.
2008 Summer Olympics – Negrón competed in the first of two qualifying competitions, which were held in Trinidad and Tobago, to qualify for the 2008 Summer Olympics. Joshua Garza of Mexico was eliminated in the preliminary round by him by a score of 13:2. Negrón defeated the Haitian team Azea Augustama 11:0 in the quarterfinals. In the subsequent round, he faced Silva again and won 12:4. Negrón defeated Venezuelan Luis González in the tournament’s title match by a point margin (17:5).
