In the summer of 2017, Cully joined MTK Global and went pro, teaming up with Pete Taylor, a trainer and Katie Taylor’s father. He made his debut on September 16, 2017, stopping Gyula Tallosi of Hungary in under a minute at Belfast’s Devenish Complex. Cully had a hectic beginning to his professional career, fighting twice at the SSE Arena in Belfast and defeating tough Englishmen Josh Thorne and Kane Baker with great victories. After two additional undercard victories in Belfast throughout the first half of 2018, Cully started to face tougher competition.

In order to progress to 7-0 as a professional, he first defeated Wearsider Jordan Ellison in the third round on October 5, 2018, at the Titanic Exhibition Centre. On December 7, 2018, he defeated Tanzanian Mohammed Kambuluta (18-5, 7 KO) in the first round at the same location. Due to a knuckle gash, the lilywhite only competed twice in 2019 and missed out on a bout with French champion Renald Garrido as a result.

On 1 February 2020, when he faced Belfast’s unbeaten local prospect Joe Fitzpatrick (10-0, 7 KO), he eventually won the vacant national belt after months of searching for a rival for the Irish lightweight title. Cully would TKO the silver medalist from the 2014 Commonwealth Games in the opening round to win his maiden championship. On August 26, 2020, Cully was slated to take on Kieran Gething. Later, Gething withdrew from the fight; Craig Woodruff, who had been given 18 days’ notice, took his place.

The bout was won by Cully on points. On March 13, 2021, six months later, Cully competed against Viktor Kotochigov for the vacant WBO European lightweight championship. He dispatched the Kazakh easily, winning through technical knockout in the second round. On June 25, 2021, Cully engaged in his second and final fight of the year against Viorel Simion. At the conclusion of the third round, Simion withdrew from the contest.
