Jared Vanderaa was born in Washington, but he and his mother frequently moved about in search of opportunities until landing in California. After the wrestling season, in February 2010, Vanderaa began training in MMA. His first amateur match took place in October of that same year. He began wrestling when he was 15, a sophomore in high school, and suffered a dislocated shoulder at the conclusion of the season. After getting it mended, he quickly joined an MMA gym and started his MMA career. He enrolled at California Baptist University but left after a short time.
Two girls were born to Vanderaa and his fiancée Lauren in 2017 and 2021, respectively. The Team Quest facility in Hemet, which replaced PrimeTime MMA and is where Jared started his career, is owned by Vanderaa and his fiance.

From 2012 through 2015, Jared engaged in amateur competition in the heavyweight and light heavyweight weight classes. He had a 5-4 record overall. In his first professional fight, he rear-naked choked John Rizzo to submit him. He stopped all four of his opponents after that. On June 30, 2017, he competed against Richard Odoms for the LFA Heavyweight Championship at LFA 15. He was defeated by kimura in the fifth round.

On October 9, 2021, at UFC Fight Night: Dern vs. Rodriguez, Vanderaa faced Alexander Romanov. In round two, he was defeated via technical knockout. In place of Philipe Lins, Vanderaa was slated to take on Azamat Murzakanov on December 4, 2021, during UFC on ESPN 31. Officials declared the bout had been called off shortly after the weigh-ins because Vanderaa had not received a medical clearance.
