    Early life

Mohammed Amer, the youngest of six kids, is of Palestinian heritage. The Kuwait Oil Company employed the father of Amer as an engineer. He acquired English and spoke it with a British accent while attending a British school in Kuwait. At the age of nine, Amer, his mother, sister, brother, Haifa, and father evacuated their native Kuwait during the Gulf War. They moved to Houston, Texas, after immigrating to the country. He said that he was the only English-speaking student in the ESL class where he was assigned.

Amer’s father, a telecom engineer, arrived in the country in 1992, two years after they did. Amer went at Piney Point Elementary while his older brothers were away at college. His other brother holds a PhD in biochemistry, while his brother Omar is a pilot. Amer’s father passed away in 1995, when he was 14 years old.

    Personal Life

Mohammed Amer, his wife, and their stepdaughter all resided in Los Angeles. He claims to have divorced during the COVID-19 epidemic in his 2021 Netflix special, Mo Amer: Mohammed in Texas. Amer acquired U.S. citizenship in 2009, allowing him to visit family in Palestine and Jordan whom he hadn’t seen in nearly 20 years. Career

When Mohammed Amer was ten years old, his older brother took him to see Bill Cosby perform at the Houston Astrodome. Amer first encountered stand-up comedy at a Texas rodeo when he was 14 years old.

After his father passed away, Amer began skipping school and going on unauthorised trips with his friends to Mexico.

Amer struck a bargain with an English teacher: if he delivered a William Shakespeare monologue in front of the class, she would restore his grade from before his absences started and let him try stand-up comedy every Friday. Amer pursued his vocation after receiving his degree.

Then, after taking part in and holding prominent positions in high school theatre, he began performing stand-up comedy by pretending to be members of his family, and honed it over a number of years in the comedy club scene. Amer worked a day job at a flag manufacturing company owned by a family friend while performing as frequently as he could at Houston’s comedy clubs to hone his act.

Amer started routinely travelling the country with Dave Chappelle and serving as his opening act in October 2015. Amer debuted on American network television in March 2017 on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Amer joined the cast of Ramy, a Hulu series starring Ramy Youssef, in 2018. In the show, he plays Mo, Ramy’s cousin, who owns and runs a restaurant where many of the characters hang out. Amer is now watching Ramy’s second season.

On June 27, 2018, Amer shot his debut Netflix comedy special at the Paramount Theatre in Austin, Texas. In 2018, it was made available on Netflix as Mo Amer: The Vagabond. Additionally, he produced and appears in the August 2022 premiere of the Netflix original series Mo. The show, which Ramy Youssef and Amer co-created, is partially based on Amer’s upbringing as a Palestinian refugee.
