Jordan Gill Boxing Career
On July 7, 2012, Jordan Gill made his professional debut, defeating Kristian Laight through four-round points decision (PTS) at the Sheffield Arena.
He challenged Commonwealth featherweight champion Ryan Doyle at the Copper Box Arena in London on October 27, 2018, with a record of 21-0 (5 KOs). Gill used body blows in the seventh round to knock the champion to the ground. In spite of Doyle beating the referee’s count of ten, a torrent of punches forced referee Victor Laughlin to stop the fight. Gill was declared the winner via technical knockout (TKO) in the seventh round, making her the new Commonwealth champion.
On March 2, 2019, at the East of England Arena in Peterborough, Jordan Gill competed against Emmanuel Dominguez for the vacant WBA International featherweight title after giving up his Commonwealth title in early 2019. In the third round, Gill felled Dominguez twice in short succession before trapping him against the ropes and launching a barrage of blows that forced the referee to stop the fight. Gill was given the victory via third-round TKO to win the regional WBA title.
Two months later, on May 10, at Nottingham’s Motorpoint Arena, he faced Mario Enrique Tinoco in the first defence of his championship. Three times, in the third, fifth, and seventh rounds respectively, Gill was knocked out by punches to the body. The champion was removed from the fight by Gill’s head trainer Dave Coldwell prior to the start of round eight to spare his client from additional punishment. Through the eighth round corner retirement, Tinoco was proclaimed the victor (RTD). After the bout, Gill stated, “I’m not going to make excuses but I’m going to, I’ve been on the toilet all afternoon,” and blamed his bad performance on illness.
I believe I have food poisoning, but I wasn’t going to leave the fight that day since I didn’t want to. On September 19, 2019, Jordan Gill and Yesner Talavera were scheduled to square off at Florence, Italy’s Tuscany Hall. All three judges gave him a 60-54 victory, giving him a unanimous decision victory in his maiden fight outside of the United Kingdom. The following opponent for Gill was Reece Bellotti on August 1, 2020. He was declared the victor by all three judges, with two of them awarding him scores of 97-93 and 96-95, respectively.
Gill challenged Cesar Juarez on February 20, 2021, for the vacant WBA International featherweight title after overcoming his first career defeat. He prevailed over his opponent with a score of 98-92, 98-93, and 96-94. On December 11, 2021, Gill was slated to compete against Karim Guerfi for the European featherweight championship. Guerfi eventually pulled out of the fight due to illness, and Alan Castillo was brought in to fight Gill in a non-title match. After three rounds, the bout was declared a draw by technical decision. Due to an unintentional head collision that left Gill with a significant cut along his hairline, the bout was stopped at the ringside doctor’s recommendation.
