Sean McComb thinks that by bringing the WBO European title to the table, he will have a better chance of persuading a well-known fighter to have a meal with him. Since his defeat in the Commonwealth championship fight last year, “The Public Nuisance” has been looking for step-ups but has had difficulty securing a named opponent.
The well-known Belfast southpaw was linked to a number of players in recent months, including Ohara Davies, Dalton Smith, and even Lee Reeves, but none of those relationships materialised. When questioned about why none of them materialised, he claims ignorance and argues that he was eager and prepared.
However, the notable former amateur thinks such battles might be simpler to arrange if he wins the WBO light welterweight belt in this weekend’s important Conlan Guerfi fight. He told Irish-boxing.com, “I think [a title win is] long needed and it would imply recognition moving into 2024.” “It will be huge in terms of subsequent bouts and having something to offer.
“I don’t know why the battles I was associated with didn’t happen, but it was not on my end; all I care about is my own poop. A good TV platform will also help me gain recognition, as I mentioned previously with regard to titles. I’m hoping that this propels me toward notable figures and into a situation where I won’t be avoided.
