News

For “ShoBox: The New Generation” on Showtime, Isaiah Steen has agreed to fight another unbeaten fighter. Elvis Figueroa (11-0, 7 KOs) and Cleveland’s Steen (16-0, 12 KOs) will fight in an eight-round co-feature on October 21 at Bally’s Grand Ballroom in Atlantic City, New Jersey, according to BoxingScene.com.

As BoxingScene.com previously reported, the 10-round main bout that Showtime will air that night will feature veteran Radivoje “Hot Rod” Kalajdzic taking on Russian light heavyweight contender Ali Izmailov (9-0, 6 KOs). This three-fight card will get off with another eight-round fight between super middleweight prospect Sean Hemphill (14-0, 8 KOs) of New Orleans and Reading, Pennsylvania’s David Stevens (11-0, 8 KOs).

The eight-round fight between junior middleweights Marquis Taylor (12-1-2, 1 KO), of Galena Park, Texas, and Marlon Harrington (8-0, 7 KOs), of Detroit, will now be a non-televised event on the Izmailov-Kalajdzic undercard. However, Showtime will broadcast the Taylor-Harrington fight’s highlights. Taylor’s most recent contest, which was featured in a “ShoBox” broadcast from Caribe Royale in Orlando, Florida on February 18, ended in an eight-round split draw between him and Philadelphia’s Paul Kroll (9-0-1, 6 KOs).

Since defeating Kalvin Henderson on points in a “ShoBox” main event main event 14 months prior, the 26-year-old Steen hasn’t competed. In July 2021 at the Heartland Events Center in Grand Island, Nebraska, Steen upset the previously unbeaten Henderson (15-2-1, 11 KOs), of Fayetteville, Arkansas, by scores of 97-93, 97-93, and 96-94.

Henderson fought Cuba’s David Morrell Jr. on June 4 for Morrell’s WBA secondary super middleweight belt despite losing to Steen. In the fourth round of a co-feature that Showtime broadcast from The Armory in Minneapolis, Morrell (7-0, 6 KOs) defeated Henderson.

When Figueroa meets Steen, the New Haven, Connecticut native will face even more pushback. Of the 11 professional opponents the 25-year-old Figueroa has faced, only four have a winning record. In his most recent fight, which took place on August 20 in Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico, Figueroa defeated Colombian journeyman Fidel Monterrosa Munoz (41-30-1, 33 KOs) in the second round.
