Boxing Career

On December 16, 2017, at Place Bell in Laval, Quebec, Kim Clavel made her professional debut against Yoseline Martinez Jose, winning a four-round unanimous decision (UD). On December 7, 2019, at the Bell Centre in Montreal, she competed for the vacant WBC-NABF female light flyweight title after compiling a record of 11-0 (2 KO). she won her maiden professional title by UD after receiving a 100-90 rating by each of the three judges. She participated in the Quebec season of Big Brother Célébrités in 2021.

On September 6th, 2022, it was revealed that she and Jessica Nery Plata would battle on December 1 for the world female junior flyweight title. The 10-round fight will take place at Laval, Canada’s Place Bell.

Kim VS Yesina – In her first major title bout, Kim Clavel made it seem far too simple. The WBC junior flyweight champion may now be added to the expanding list of accomplishments for the local hero and 2020 ESPY winner for daring that went well beyond her chosen sport. On Friday night at Montreal Casino in Montreal, Canada, Kim Clavel put on a boxing clinic to easily dethrone long-reigning champion Yesenia Gomez, with a lopsided ten-round, unanimous decision. Judges Michael A. Ross (99-91) and Alejandro Rochin (99-91) and Marie-Josee Guerin (100-90) all decided in Clavel’s favour.

The 31-year-old Montrealer, who is unbeaten, was previously best known for her work on the pandemic’s medical front line, but she can now proudly claim to be one of the sport’s most promising young athletes. Even though, on paper, Clavel was the superior boxer, he chose to stand and trade in the first round. The gamble paid off as Cancun’s Gomez, who was making her first appearance outside of Mexico in her eleven-year professional career, hit clean right hands and body shots early on before Clavel rapidly established her rhythm.

In consecutive exchanges, the unbeaten challenger stunned Gomez with a left hook and a right hand in a combination. The tempo of the second round was set by Clavel, who consistently remained in striking distance while forcing Gomez to miss and then pay for it.

In the fifth round, Clavel offered a less offensively oriented strategy, but Gomez was unable to take advantage. The reigning champion made an attempt to bridge the gap but was unsuccessful. Although Clavel’s punching power reduced, he was still able to stop almost all of Gomez’s blows. Clavel’s strategy to briefly let up on the gas pedal in the middle of the round paid well, as she came out firing in the second part of the bout. Gomez was frequently relegated to one punch at a time while Clavel continued to punch in combination.

In the last ten seconds, Gomez let her hands fly, but she missed almost every punch. The eighth frame was opened with lateral movement provided by Clavel. Gomez was agitated and frequently took breathers, but he managed just enough right hands during the struggle to bruise Clavel’s left eye. At the beginning of round eight, Gomez was squarely in front of Clavel, and she paid the price by taking two body shots, a left hook, and a right hand.
